Social Workers and Not For Profit professionals can make good money too!

I have had the opportunity to work with many clients who are in the areas of social service and the not for profit worlds. People are offended dissuaded from pursuing a career in social work or not for profits as family and friends will tell them that “there is no money in it” and “social workers do not make anything”. While it is true those salaries on average at a not for profit are less than in the corporate world, one can be successfully in the field, both professionally and financially:

· Social Workers employed in a hospital setting tend to earn more than social workers on average.

· Development professionals are always in demand and often command a high premium on their salary as well as incentive bonuses for raising money.

· Director and senior level positions are quite competitive and management professionals will often bounce between the corporate and not for profit worlds.

Additionally the benefits are very competitive with the corporate world and even exceed for profits in some circumstances. Benefits might include full health coverage, generous retirement contributions, several weeks of vacation days per year and educational incentives.
